Help starts here
Figuring it all out on your own can be daunting.
Time to take some weight off your shoulders
Seeking help is a kind thing to do for yourself.
Right now things may feel pretty tough.
You spend a lot of time wondering what your life will look like if you keep going down this path. And you know deep down you want and deserve more.
It’s not always easy to ask for help - I’m proud of you for making it here.
A life that’s joyful, peaceful, and fulfilling is possible for you.
With the right tools, support, and guidance, you can -
Learn to identify and improve unhealthy relationship patterns
Better understand the reoccuring issues and themes that appear in your life
Safely process trauma, conflict, and emotional distress
And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.
But first, hi there.
I’m Marie Cordray, a licensed therapist for teens & adults.
And I was once where you are now.
Trauma and a lack of good relationship modeling meant that as a teen and young adult, I struggled with seeing my own worth. I didn’t know how to make safe choices in romantic relationships.
It wasn’t until I was almost in my 30s that I started getting the help I needed.
Before getting that help, I stumbled through that period of my life without any idea of how to course-correct.
Inevitably, I reached a crisis point that changed everything.
Now, I want to give people the support and skills that I wish I’d had back then.
I’m glad you’re here.
I’d love to help you find your new path.
See how you can work with me to discover how to live with light.
You are the expert in your own experience.
As your therapist, my role is to support and guide you through the tough things you’re struggling to navigate on your own.
I offer an eclectic mix of therapeutic techniques, shaping our work together to meet your individual needs and goals. If something’s not working for you, tell me straight away and we’ll course-correct.
I won’t have all the answers or magic solutions, but I can offer an approach that is:
-
Collaborative
We’ll come up with new paths forward together. You are your biggest advocate, so I will always encourage you to use your voice. I can make thoughtful observations, suggestions and recommendations, but it’s through the work you do, both in and out of session, that will lead to the greatest transformations.
-
Trauma informed
By acknowledging the impact trauma can have, recognizing symptoms, integrating trauma knowledge, and avoiding re-traumatization, I can better support you in your recovery.
-
Emotionally-focused
We’ll work on building your emotional vocabulary, so you can recognize and identify emotions as they happen, allowing you to navigate them more effectively.
-
Anti-oppression led
Creating a dynamic that feels non-hierarchical is something I strive towards, but I acknowledge my inherent privilege as a cis-gendered, able-bodied white woman. I’ll always do my best to leave power dynamics at the door.
WHAT I’M NOT GOING TO DO
Only listen and scribble in my notebook.
Sit there in silence, expecting you to fill every minute with dialogue… unless you need me to, of course!
Give you all the answers.
Treat you unkindly, minimize your experience, or dismiss your feelings.
WHAT I WILL DO
Suggest practical tools you can use to shift where things are now closer to where you want them to be.
Offer up my observations and provide thoughtful responses to whatever you choose to share.
Encourage and guide you towards finding the answers for yourself.
Treat you with respect, sensitively work through big emotions with you, and always strive to help you feel understood.
